Eneko Llanos wins – Spanish victory at the third Thomas Cook IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca
Mallorca, May 11, 2013 – A Spanish dream came true: with the victory of Spaniard Eneko Llanos the third edition of the Thomas Cook IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca ended on Saturday. After a race time of 3 hours, 52 minutes and 36 seconds for the 1.9 k swim, a 90 k bike ride and a 21.1 k run the winner crossed the finish line. The Belgian Bart Aernouts came in second place (03:52:54). Andreas Raelert of Rostock (GER), who had won the inaugural Thomas Cook IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca in 2011, came in third place (03:54:43). The surprise winner in the ladies field was Austrian Lisa Hütthaler after 4 hours, 24 minutes and 25 seconds. Second place went to Dutch Yvonne van Vlerken (04:27:17), followed closely by Lucy Gossage of Britain (04:30:03).
Along with the pro athletes over 3,200 age group athletes from 67 nations kicked off the European IRONMAN season, 586 of them from Germany.
“It was again an excellent event. The weather was ideal and the atmosphere on the race course was fantastic. The Thomas Cook IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca has already become a tradition and proves not only for us as travel company but also for the athletes that Mallorca is the ideal venue for this time of the year”, says Michael Tenzer, CEO of Thomas Cook Central Europe and third-time finisher himself. “Even if our Neckermann Reisen ambassador Andreas Raelert did not win this year we are more than happy with the outcome of the race. We are pleased that the winner of this great event on Mallorca is Spanish.”
